I love these flowers. If you don't know, I worked in the Garden Center at Wal-Mart (I have since moved to nights). I found this beauty hidden among the drab and dreary yellow lantana and instantly fell in love with it. So, I bought it :) It has not failed me yet. It has bloomed twice this summer already and every time, it takes my breath away. I have yet to see another one quite like it. It blooms yellow in the center and then bursts out to red on the edges. What I love about lantana is, you have to get close to them to appreciate their beauty. From far away, they look like round flowers (much like marigolds); but when you get close, you see that they are actually tight clusters of tiny blooms. I have been meaning to photograph them for a while now. Setup was natural light on the porch with a reflector placed out in the yard to bring in some highlights :)

GImme a W, gimme an A...sorry, ex-Wal-Mart employee here. Handed in my blue vest a year ago, still having flash-backs.

This is a beautiful shot, the shallow dof really gives it a dreamy feel.

fabulous background colors, flowers liik a little oversaturated, but it's still pretty

Wow, gorgeous shot, and I like your story, too. I would have guessed that you had run some sort of filter on this to achieve these colors. Well done.

Pretty geranium. Is that its common name? Anyway, I would like to see some more area in focus, but you did capture some of that yellow you talk about. Here's to another gardener. (I will be setting up some images of my flowers in gardens as the days progress.

Beautiful image.

Around here Lantana grow like weeds and we had a garden full of them last summer. Then when it got hot and dry a lot of them died off and I suspect winter may have destroyed the rest of them. Except for one cutting I've grown in a pot which seems to be doing okay except that the plant is a lousy shape. I'll have to try and improve on it next summer because they can make really beautiful bonsai trees and that's what I was trying for.

This is why I love the side challenges...If you entered this in a normal challenge you would get slaughtered by the voters because it fell outside the norm. I just thing the wavering focus is stunning and with the richness of colours it makes for a really stunning image. Not 100% sure about the uneven border (may have prefered just the horizontals if you needed to square it up) Beautiful shot though
