In terms of the concept - yes, it was very important that it's a solo female traveller. It's something I love doing, and people find odd on the whole. Come on ladies, independence rocks, honestly :)
Or to be more precise: if you have more fun with friends, or just don't have the travel bug at all, that's all good, but travelling by yourself offers interesting possibilities. Once you let go of all the (perfectly normal) fears and anxieties that come with letting go of familiar things and setting off by yourself, magic things start happening.

In technical terms: if anyone could tell me why I have those annoying light glares coming off streetlamps, I would most appreciate it. The sky wasn't as smooth as I would've expected it to be either. Sally was light-painted with a torch, and yes, I know the light was too bright on the coat - I fixed that in later shots, but it got dark quickly, and this one has a much cooler sky than the later ones. But on the whole - I don't really know what the proper way to shoot nightscapes it, if you have advice, let me know.

Now there's a photo with meaning! Nice title, artistically expressing it and love the natural lighting on her, subtle yet powerful.

a very nice shot, indeed. the flare may come from a bit of grub on the lens - something that wouldn't make a difference except on bright points of light in the dark, where there's no ambient light to absorb the flares.

on another point - travelling solo is wonderful; i agree completely. if you haven't read it, 'the blessings of a good thick skirt' is a super book about female travellers. i'd really recommend it. the title comes from an entry in the diary of a victorian adventurer. she fell into a lion trap - the pit kind with spikes poking up - somewhere in africa. however, her thick skirts and crinolines protected her from the spikes, and her porters came and pulled her out...

I like it just the way it is. I'm not sure where the flare comes from the lights, but I like it. And the sky looks wonderfully smooth on this monitor - no complaints at all. What's most pleasing to me, other than the concept, which I very much like (I travel alone, though usually with a suitcase rather than a pack), is the sweeping curve created by both the woman and the land shape. Great composition!

SO beautiful! I love the lights from the city below, and the hazy purple color... IMO, the streaks of light coming from the street-lamps creates an unusual, interesting touch! Beautiful, beautiful photo.

This is nice - has a sedate feel to it.

Cool picture. You and avid hiker/backpacker? I am myself, the pack just reminds me of hiking. I think a tad more face would have been preferred, but it is a wonderfully composed image. I like it.

As for the streetlights, I believe that is just glare. You could try a polarizing filter. I think it has to do with longer exposures at night (could be wrong there).

Great colors, nice lighting (could maybe have illuminated her feet since she's a traveller). Unfortunately it looks like your model is standing stiff as a board yet wasn't quite still enough ... but I'm giving a higher rating since overall it's a great image.
