 This is actually a macro of the tips of a pine cone. I rotated image, adjusted layers, color balance, curves, hue/saturation, contrast, cropped and re-sized for web. It will be interesting to see if anyone guesses what it is.

Doh, so close. Your subject is out of focus. This would be a very powerful image were it sharp to me.

I wasn't sure what this was but then I saw a photo of a pineapple in this challenge and this looks like a piece of the outside of a pineapple. The way you took the photo it looks like a moth, which is clever. I do wish it were in focus though.....more DOF would really help.

Can I have one more guess? If it's not from the outside of a pineapple I think it might be from a pine cone.

A pinecone? The brown tones make me think pinecone, but the little pointy parts look more like a pineapple. But I'll stick with pinecone. Nicely composed with the tip on the rule of thirds. I think I'd like to see the focus brought just a bit further forward so the tip is more in focus. I like how the second one is mimicked in the background.
