Dan Davies from the band D.N.A. Taken during a live performance with my 75-300mm Lens. I think it's quite an improvement on the shot I entered last time of Dan, altho I don't think it is going to do as well as my other, which got 2nd place.

Quite a lot of editing on this one:
Cloned out an unwanted background element, erased some harsh shadows from the face and hand, fixed the hand looking dislocated, neatimaged, resized, sharpened, minor brightness/contrast, added extra blur to enhance the 'action', submitted.

The part of the photo outside the border was not in the original photo, as the image is uncropped, so I had to use cloning to create the end of his fingers, the mic stand, and the mic lead. I think it looks quite convincing.

Greetings from the Critique Club...

Hi Ben...

I think you did a great job with this shot. The exposure looks good and the composition is also nice. The color of the shirt contrasts very nicely with the dark background.

As far as the challenge is concerned, I think you simply suffered from lack of action. As you are aware, meeting the challenge is a subtle way doesn't usually get you very far.

Excellent work :)

I'm not sure if the motion blur was intentional or not, but IMHO, it would have been better without. Other than that, excellent

Nice capture, but a bit "onerneatimaged".

The PS motion blur works pretty well here, but I'm not a big fan of using fake motion blurs in general. It still has the effect of discrediting this as a photographic achievement and giving it an artificial feel. Private message me if I'm wrong and this was done in camera, and I'll be sure to reconsider the shot.

Nice motion blur!
To me the title is misleading, he just seems to be muttering, not giving it everything at all :)

This is the second time I've seen this guy singing, right? Not sure I see the action, cause the image has been blurred a bit? Doesn't do it for me. 6.

Excellent composition (position within frame, angle of arm and of mike stand, tilt of head, crop).
I don't always like borders that don't border the entire image but it enhances rather than detracts in this case. Motion being limited to only his arm and a little on his head works well.

excellent exposure. nice expression captured. It doesn't really say "action" to me but it is a good portrait

Good exposure and interpretation of the theme. A bit picky but the boarder cuts off the photo on the right but the microphone extends past it on the left - showing the editiing.
