I think this is a case where I would prefer he was not looking towards the camera. It would look more like he was a guardian, not bad though.

If that red pole wasn't there it sure would to help keep you focused in scene. Good strong colours. Good lighting and DOF.

Lovely colours and dof, like the fact that the lifeguard is looking towards but not at the camera, makes for a good image
