Kalk Bay harbour - Cape Town: at the end of the day - fishing boats and fishermen cleaning up after a day at sea. Really great light - setting sun through slate, heavy clouds... hope I do it justice here. Was originally going to submit this for "Candid" ... we'll see how it all plays out.
Struggling with the "rule of thirds" in the composition: the original has so much good detail in it: there is more enamel ware on the left, and the foreground has great "red" detail and texture...but where to crop is the question. Oh well, hoping that the centredness doesn't hurt me too much: but I really tend towards centred, square compositions....so will have to take what comes my way in this.
Cropped in as tight as I could without losing context. Also would love to burn the lid of the kettle - it bothers me a lot. Contrasts to bring out definitions in the ropes and crates, lifted colour slightly. Love the old fashioned shaving brush and the gangster tattoo on his left wrist..just the details I enjoy in this.
