My grandfather, Alfredo, is 85 years old. He's a happy elderly and respected for his love of life and everything that he's been through. He teaches what he learned in life and the four generations after him value the wisdom that only comes in growing old. He is the source of motivation in the family. He has aches and pains but otherwise in good health and his spirits are high.

A candid shot of him in their apartment. I used a 50mm prime lens..., lighting is an overhead chandelier and flash bounced off the ceiling, tripod.

He knew this was going to be put on the internet, he was amused and gave his approval but he wanted a framed version. :)

Shot in raw mode and converted to TIFF in Photoshop CS and Saved for Web in JPEG for download here.

Post-processing: Very little levels adjustment, cropped, resized, converted to grayscale and colorized thru hue/saturation adjustment. I can't remember the values I put in each field. Used the brush tool in weeding out unwanted spots (mostly hair). A little bit of USM applied to the image. Added text and border.

Hi Greetings from the CC. I like this shot a lot. I think it is a beautiful portrait. I do wish that the print was all on the border. I think what i find most wonderful is that you have captured a feel in this shot, it is emotive. I think you have captured a gentleness and peacefulness in his face that is heartwarming. I think you have a great eye, often we pick subjects that do not merit a second look, this subject choice draws you in and makes you want to look again and again. I find myself longing to create a story in my mind about who this man in and the life he has led. I think this is a powerful thing to do in a photo and much more important than the technical aspects of a shot. Very nice job. keep shooting!

I do not like the large text both within the image. Where is the quick short title?
Very nice idea nd shot but I think the white balance may be off a tad. Is this desaturated, grayscale or ?

Great portrait work. I love the message, too. I think that having the embedded text in black might improve the entry.

Make sure the font sizes of age and wisdom are the same, the slightest difference can be noticed by the expert and considered something wrong, but don't know with the inexperienced.

Good composition and pose. Tinted monochrome is effective (I don't care for the color, but I'm color blind, so what do I know!). A catchlight to put a "twinkle" in his eyes would make him look wiser. The focus is soft, which is fine (even preferred for younger people), but older people have great texture in their face and a little sharpening would show it off better.

Very thoughtful. If only others would take the time to listen to their words of wisdom. Who knows, we might learn something.
Excellant poster.

Great portrait. I like the slogan on the photo; the one at the bottom of the frame seems trite by comparison with the title and the upper slogan.

Image is a bit fuzzy and the lighting flat, though the composition is good. This kind of poster needs a single word title to be most effective - your 'message' isn't clear enough.

Really nice portait....really! The face is full of character, and the light is great. I only have compliments.

This is a wonderful shot ... I just wish the text was less imposing on it. Maybe it would be more appealing with the text in the frame as a subtitle?

Very inspirational. Although I would have chosen a bit livelier colour tone for this great man - something warmer looking.
