This was such a great learning experience taking this shot. This robin built a nest in our pool shed on the kids toys, and I didn't want it there for the shed is really small and it just wouldn't have worked. I took the nest and put it on the windowsill by the back door in a plant pot not thinking anything of it, for the robins are always making nests in the craziest places where we don't want them. Later I walked by the window and there was the robin in the nest in the planter pot on the sill. So I thought later wouldn't it be so amazing to put the nest in the candy dish and see what they would do. In no time she was sitting on the nest in the candy dish. She had 4 babies, and everyday I set my camera up and sat on the deck and took pictures. They got so used to me being there that I put the blue backdrop up against the window and it didn't bother them. I took so many pictures and it was great watching the mom and dad feed them everyday until they were old enough to leave the nest. These are very dedicated birds and are very friendly!! Hope you like this shot, I quite enjoyed the whole 4 weeks!!

Amazing work. The detail and colors are incredible. I agree with others here that is should have scored much higher. Everything about it is great!

Laurie, you are certainly the "Small Animal Whisperer' :) I think this photo is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The story is incredible, but the photography: out of this WORLD! I am truly disappointed that this is in 123rd place!

I wondered about this photo all week! I gave it a 10! I am very fond of robins for obvious reasons and just adore this photo and all your other work. Thanks for explaining how the photo came about. Incredible and magical! What a great story! You have a gift, that is for sure.

What a wonderful story and surely a moment in life to be cherished!

Still wish you had a different color background for the pic though, and being almost a "blue screen", in a Hue/Saturation adjustment of +10 Hue and -60 Saturation on just the Cyan would have made a huge difference in my opinion.

This shot has everything, except one thing - a better background color. The harshness throws this so far off balance it becomes hard to look at for very long.

Unbelievable! Are you serious? If this was staged, my hat is off. If it wasn't, you have my unending respect. I'll be back after voting to find out how you pulled this off. Creativity 10. Wow value 10. Overall appeal 10.

If this is real I really want to know how you got it. Unbelievable that a Robin would be feeding it's young in a nest in a glass in front of a cyan backdrop. If it's a model it REALLY looks lifelike.

Hmm..this is quite interesting. Not sure if you put the birds in this bowl or if they just made a home here. haha. Very different & I give you much credit for that. I like the thin black frame, great job.

Sure would like to know how you did this one. It's an innovative, out-of-the-box image. Well done. I'm going to be bummed if it's a photo of birds, set in the glass.

Darling photo... but the background makes it look unnatural and out-of-place
