I thought this was a better shot than most of the desat shots. I think your choice were the color goes was good and I understand the rope colorization issue.

Well done. I guess top 100 isn't too shabby with as many entries as there were. I like how you desaturated it. Got a 7 from me. ;~D

Hi from the critique club:)

firstly- great shot and congratulations on a good finish-this was a tough one and you did very well.

I think that you have used the effect here with meaning and in a way that adds strength to the picture. The colour really highlights the main parts of the picture and they really stand out against the background.. I think that the title works well with this and it makes people appreciate the kinds of jobs and dangeer that these people do...so yes, your image makes people think.

I do wish that the rest of the rope was colourized..but as you said this is down to taste...for me it would have worked better with colour.

Great toning, great sharpeness.....Great shot!! Good Job. Natasha

underrated, but not a bad finish considering the size of the challenge. Some nice comments you received as well. Great job and a great photo.

What a great catch! Love your choice of selective desat with the two men. Lol I was wondering about the partial coloring of the rope too. I guess I would not have looked at it as a distraction because it is part of what is connecting the two men. Nice score too!

Thanks everyone for their voting and comments. I wanted to add a note to those that questioned the fact that I didn't colorize the rope. I thought long and hard on this, looked at both versions and left it like this - I didn't want the rope to distract and pull people out of the picture. It doesn't really add anything on the edges anyway - but oh well, can't please everyone. Many great shots in this challenge, congrats to all the top ten and ribboners,

Jack

Jack, I love this one! The size of those 2 guys and the fact that they pop so much give such scale to this. Great job.

A good capture, the rope's shape and position makes it. Good composition and a good range of tones throughout. Good luck

This is a good capture and a good B&W conversion, I'm just not sure what the color adds to it.

Neat shot, but it isn't immediately apparent that this isn't a normal color image. At least not to me.

Kind of strange, because you didn't finish coloring the rope. Did you run out of time or patience?

the fact that there are parts of the rope that are desaturated is distracting to me ...

Person on left: aaahhhh, the rope has gone wild
Person on right: don't worry, I'll use the force.

lol. Really, though, awesome shot. Great capture of expression and action. Its a very telling photo (as you can see I can make stories up by just looking at it). Your use of selective desaturation really helps. Well done.

EXCELLENT! There's a REASON for this desat, it isn't arbitrary. Wonderful action too. I wish you'd titled it "Towline", but what the hey.
