Thanks! It was a very nice early morning with some light filtering through the fog. Grad ND to hold back the sky slightly. The light was much cooler than it shows here but I thought boosting the temp gave it a better feel.

w/o runner. Went back and forth between with or without(Just cloned out the runner on this one for illustration).

Beautiful capture Mark. This creatively demonstrates several vanishing points, a couple of them are even literal. Congratulations.

This is such a great shot Mark, I really like how the treetops start to come in the frame then fade away. excellent work

Love this, going into my fav's. I really do prefer the one with the runner, but maybe that is because I love to run myself!!! I'd LOVE to run THERE!!!!!

where do you see two parallel lines? what you see is two converging lines, they just haven't converged yet ... the voters decided it was close enough.

... and i agree ... close enough :)

Awesome entry for this challenge the runner adds to the impact of the vanishing point. Very cool work! Congratulations on the Blue!

Great photo but I personally like the other one better. I think it is because the path curves a bit and I also like the colour tones better. I love the mist and they are both great photos.

I have to agree. This does not represent a vanishing point at all. It's really too bad and quite frankly, very confusing. This is not a knock on you Mark, this is serious knock on the voters.

No offense taken. I'm not 100% convinced myself(just 92.5%). I think I'll start a thread where it can be bandied about. ;)

I don't get it. While this is a very nice "scenic" photograph, I don't see how it fits in with the theme "vanishing point" any better than other shots that were commented on as not fitting in.

It has two parallel lines but they do not converge in this image, thus there is no vanishing point.

I'm not complaining I'm just trying to get a better understanding of what fits and what doesn't within the challenges.

So far, I've come to the early conclusion that there is no rhyme or reason. Kind of like it's all decided according to the chaos theory.

Definitely the right choice going with the runner. Without the runner the sense of scale is totally lost and then so is that looming, imposing feeling the photo projects. Excellent photo...congratulations on winning the blue ribbon!

Congrats!

And after comparing the shots, I think the runner added tremendously to the scope. The runner-less shot feels smaller. Great choice.

love the mist. Great photo... though I wish the runner wasn't there... it seems to take away from that "middle of nowhere amazon" kind of feeling the overall photo has.

Looming and imposing...that mist/fog really isolates the trees as individuals and make your title quite fitting. Very beautiful photograph!

Person is distracting, loses a mystical quality

05/16/2007 12:02:29 PM
Was the person intentional? I'd probably have waited for her(?) to clear the shot, though at the same time I do like having a reference point to really convey the size of the trees.
