That's it... I hereby officially give up on Photoshop. :-)

My last entry won a blue with only minimal PhotoShop editing done to it. This one had no "manual editing" whatsoever. After converting from raw, I ran a little automated script which resized, sharpened and added a border. That's it!

Thanks everyone for all of the wonderful comments! :-)

I have posted an edited version for sale on DPC Prints.

P.S.
The light on his face came from one of these . Just a hand held battery powered spot light.

David, congratulations on yet another ribbon. Nice work on this one. I know what you mean about the whole minimal editing. My recent entry had no editing except USM done also. I really like how this one turned out. Nice work.

this shot is wonderful. Having lived in Arizona, I learned that native americans hold their festivals and dances very sacred and outside photography is considered offensive. Students even told me of outsiders harmed due to invading an event. I admire people who hold to their traditions and "roots". I also admire photographers who present these people well. You have a wonderful capture here and do great justice to a proud people. Congrats ! :-)

It was only a matter of time David. You very regularly create professional and beautiful portraits. In fact I was stunned to read a comment of yours noting that you do not shoot for a living.

Anyway, it is another fantastic image - thanks for playing!

Ha! You're on a great roll David. Wonderful shot, the light across his face really adds impact and draws you right in. The only nit pick that I can even find is a tad bit of detail loss in the tip of his spear but that's really reaching. This is another amazing shot and for that I congratulate you.

Very nice image and composition. The sky color is a bit over the top. My eyes would like the focus to be a little clearer but the sunset type lighting probably made that part a challenge. The golden tones of that lighting work great on his skin. Back to bump you up to 8.

Gorgeous..... 10
(only complaint is that I'd like a bit more sharpness, but that's probably in part due to the small size...that and the blue of the sky looks a tad off. Perhaps darken the blue a shade or so.)

05/09/2007 02:28:51 AM
To be honest, my only real complaint about this shot is that it looks "a little too good"; by this I mean, of course, that it lacks realism and spontaneity. The thing looks too set-up, staged, false. Yes, "technically," things look fine: good colors, nice composition, interesting subject. Also, the shot meets the challenge. So, I naturally wouldn't give this submission a "low grade," but its very "presentational" texture keeps me from being too kind, as well.
