Wow! What a wonderful surprise! Thank you all for your votes and comments. I'm so happy to finally have a ribbon. It's kind of funny. I don't ever take action shots like this. This was totally a last minute idea, and a stretch at that. I just can't believe it did as well as it did. During voting I kept hovering between 7.0 and 7.2, and figured I would get top 10, but a ribbon was just a hope and a dream. Now it is reality! Excellent! Again, thank you all for your high votes and your comments too!

Pre-voting:
Couldn't come up witn any "traditional" sporting events, so this morning I tried to go out with a buddy and take photos of him fly fishing. Well, I need more practice with that to have a better idea of where to stand and when to shoot. So, at the last minute I drove down to the local skate park and shot some kids for an hour or so. This was the best of the bunch in my opinion.

Very good image. This is another one that I hoped would win something. Great job! I believe I gave this one a 9 if I recall. I didn't give any 10's and only two other 9's so you were definitely at the top of my voting curve. Excellent Work!

Outstanding shot and VERY ribbon worthy.
A real middle finger to the people who voted it 3 and 4 ;)
The subject isolation is perfect.
Oustanding focus, colour and light.
Usually I'd say " It's a shame you cant see the look on their face " in skating shots, but this pose is spot on !
Congrats !

Wow! Nice shot. I'm not sure that I can tell you anything to improve this shot, it stands on its own fairly well.

I do think there are some elements that work together, though, to make this a good shot.

First, the focus is right on. The colors are rich and the details in the skater are clearly present. Also, having the skater in the top of the frame, adds to the feeling of "big air" that this shot portrays. And, subtlely, the slope of the half-pipe (is that the right term?) gives even more motion and action to the shot.

You have done a fine job, and this is an excellent shot.

Wow, what a move! and he looks so young and unprotected. I really like the composition with the subject hanging over that curved line sweeping down to the lower right corner. Perfect focus and DOF, and very pleasing, natural colors. 10

Nice capture, although it does look a bit like he could be sitting on that projection on the left fro this angle.

Very nice shot. I love the focus, light, lines, and the moment you captured. I can't decide if seeing his face would improve this or not.

Good picture, but the angle looks like he's sitting on the edge of the bench. Good DOF and frozen motion. With no padding I hope he doesn't fall.

I like the lighting and the focus is dead on with this shot. I just wish I could see his face in the shot as well.

wow, nice shot. Skateboarding shots are pretty hard to capture due to such fast paced action. He looks young...must be good.

Very, very nice. Not much to complain about, the only thing would be the background around the kids bum, I'd like less of it ;)

frozen very nicely. The harshish light actually works in this shot. I'd even think about a B&W treatment since the colors are not strong. 8
