Yeah, I just got the HPV shot. I know it's great and all that I'm getting it, but I really HATE shots. I thought I was doing okay actually when she stuck it in, but then she injected it and it hurt worse than any other shot I've gotten before. Then the annoying nurse kept asking "Are you going to pass out, are you? Are you??", and I finally had to yell, "NO, it just hurts." I swear she asked me that question 50 times.
Anyway, I survived and the first thing I did was go home and shoot this. The flash was too harsh and I didn't have a good light to use, so I diffused the flach with half a sheet of tissue. The result was that only my face and shoulder caught the light and there wasn't an annoying shadow on the wall. It also mad my hair appear really dark and I helped that along by burning the rest of my blonde hair, black.
I also dodged and burned to create highlighs on my cheekbones and arm so I kinda look like an anorexic anemic girl (don't worry, I'm plenty chunky in reality, lol). My eyes already had dark circles under them, but I burned that a little more as well as dodged around my fake eyeliner "tear" as well as dodged my badaid to make it show more. I like the grainyness of this, but I did actually add a little neatimage believe it or not.
I know it's kinda creepy and weird, but hopefully you guys will like it.

I like the grungy feel its got, the lighting really enhances that feeling too. I'm not a huge fan of the tear but its kinda cute. |

For an attempt at being intentionally zombie-ish, the processing works. Is intentionally zombie-ish something I hope to see more of? Well... |

What a fascinating story. I'm really glad you shared that with us. It makes the photo very interesting to me! You did a great job editing this to give a really haunting look (but I don't believe you are plenty chunky :)
Fabulous job!!!

Leah, I like this shot a lot - I think it captures a ton of emotive and the shadows are very effective. I'm not sure about the "tear" though - it feels a little bit flat for some reason - I actually thought at first there was something on the lens. Nicely done processing here overall. |

You have a good eye, and for me you achieved what you set out to do very effectively. What's particularly interesting to me here is the use of the word "shot." With the title, and even starting in your narrative, I thought you were referring to a photograph (ie, a photographic "shot"). It took me awhile to get it; I assumed one kind of shot over the other given the context of where I read it. Anyway, I like the "shot" and what you've done with it.
