You take black matt board and you make the cut-out. The cut-out is mounted with a hinge so that once it is exposed (as you move the flame behind the cutout) you then drop the cutout, place the hand in position and shoot off the flashes. It is not, a picture of a hand with a cutout. Another long exposure and done in darkness. It can be done better but I got the idea at the 11th hour and I used a 15 watt blue bulb to accomodate placement. With more time you can arrange to do it in total darkness. As usual, I am lately taking minimum time to shoot while I contend with my hard drive crashes and one problem after another. Today, they replaced the hard drive on my New Imac which has made these past two months a bit difficult.

You always make me want to get my tripod out and try stuff Dan! Thank you for continuing to be an inspiration. Glad to hear that your hard drive woes are being sorted finally.

Clever idea - was the card actually on fire? If so, hope you didn't get burned - I imagine that nylon thread would have burned through quite quickly.

would have preferred a less jagged edge, and a more well lit hand.

heh. Nice title. I think that's a scratch to the right of the pi sign which kind of works against the otherwise nice illusion you created.

Creative idea. I'll be interested to see how you achieved the effect. From a technical standpoint, the skin color seems a little bit off. Also, if the pi shape wasn't quite so sharp, it wouldn't look as cut out and might look more natural.

Great concept, except that I see "ghost" images below and behind the hand (in the background).

wish the hand was clearer...otherwise, it's awesome!

print of a hand with pi cut into it looking at a fire? Nice job anyway, shame about the flare tho :(
