Day 1.....re the 30 Day "Black & White" Challenge.....

This is an image that I took last November 2006, and forgot about it until recently, when browsing through my photogtaphs that I took while we were in Sydney last year.

I converted to black and white, and I am quite pleased with the results, especially the cloud formation.

ps; Just a little more about this image. It was taken in Newport, Sydney NSW Australia at dusk, when the sun was setting, but a huge storm was mustering its power iun the background.

The mixture of the sunset, and the storm, was the reason why I love this sky so much. I got my camera out, and recorded this event, that you see here.....

The above image was where the dusk photo, was captured from this jetty.

This works VERY well in B&W, Shez. Lovely conversion - I like how it's very low keyish. And the sky is indeed grand.

Shez - love the processing on this image. I know it is really annoying to not be able to get out and about right now to take many new shots, but you sure have found some great images to process for this challenge. Your treatment with the high contrast is excellent - almost comes off like a drawing rather than a photographic image.

This is GORGEOUS! I love seeing clouds in pics. The contrast and little streaks of light are beautiful.

A very nice moody pick. You did an amazing job considering the wide dynamic range.

Hello Sherpet. Welcome back! Good to see that you are up and participating in something you love.

Now onto the photo - This is a lovely contrast-filled photo with quite a dramatic sky. It is that sky that really captures the attention. The dock adds a nice feel to it - it beacons the viewer to stand upon it's wooden planks to drink in the beauty of the sky above. However I think there is too much gleam off the waves of the water below that is distracts from the lovely and dramatic sky. I think cropping off the bottom portion to just below the dock will strengthen the composition. It would turn the composition into a square photo that will keep the attention focused tightly on the dramatic sky with the dock and a little bit of waterscape to add to the dramatic backdrop.

Hi Sherpet, this is a great shot that has a bit too much contrast for my personal preference the black Vs White tones are fabulous though.. hope your feeling a bit better after your fall, I know all about back pains I broke (disslocated) mine 25 years ago, never been the same.

I'm so happy you are able to participate. I think this is all about showcasing our black and white photography. I personally would rather see people's best black and white stuff -- than just see stuff they took in their normal day -- but that's just me. So my opinion. .. Show us what you got girlfriend!

I sure wish I could be there. It looks beautiful.

Very contrasty. Dramatic sky. On my computer screen, it looks oversharpened (e.g., note the white halos around the top of the trees, and the rock at bottom left).
