 I love having an excuse to go up to the top of the world -- San Antonio's Tower of the Americas -- and see our beautiful city from up in the sky. So I thought I'd start my black and white portfolio for this challenge with a night photo of my city.

This is a WONDERFUL B&W capture. The city lights twinkle in the darkness like the stars in the sky. I like how you composed the city in 98% of your shot for this helps add to the illusion of a night sky but it also gives the eye much of the city landscape to 'feast' on. The city is indeed beautiful and much more so the beauty of the night lit city really shines in the B&W for we do not have the variation of many colors to distract or jar the eye's attention in this lovely capture. You even have a 'focal' point for the eye to latch on too - that building in the near center that looks roundish. It serves/acts as an anchor- one that we are drawn to and then from there take in the surroundings of the city. Wonderful composition and capture. Well done.

Hi Sandy! Lovely shot. Has an old-world, classical feeling to it. You did a good job with composition by placing the square building in the bottom right.

Here we go again.....
I was pleased to see you had commented my day one picture, it meant you were in the challenge too.
I was wondering what you were going to come up with.
I usually associate your pictures with bright vibrant rich colors.
I should have known you'd get an amazing picture with perfect black whites and neutral grays in it :-)

nice cityscape, the focus is just amazing. I think I just don't care for the bright tower in the center, kind of distracts me from the rest of the image.

oooh love the black and white contrasts. and you can still tell the difference between the end of the city scape and the horizon - awesome. Plus I am a sucker for lights giving off that starburst look.

Fantastic image for day one of the challenge, great shot of the city and the fact that you have kept in so noise free is wonderful. A Really beautiful image which is set off by the border. I really couldnt recommend any way to improve this shot

I really like the detail shown in the city! Love the contrast and the tones. Because it's at night, the large white frame is throwing me a bit. Perhaps a dark gray would keep it more "evening". Very pretty!

Sterling photograph - TRULY beautiful.

I do have an issue with frames though, and in this case I tend to think that chunky white frame detracts from the awesome image - can we see it anywhere without?

hi sandy ... this is such a busy photograph .. and i imagine your city is a very busy place .. dohhhhh ... so the way you've composed this and the black and white really conveys that sense of busyness to me .. (think i'm sounding like an idiot!!) .. the fact that you took it at night makes it all the more interesting .. and different for me because i havent seen many b&w night shots ... i love the contrasts created by the lights and the silhouetted buildings and trees etc ...
