An Air Force Utilities Apprentice looks to be raised out of the sewer pit he was working in as water rushed into the pit causing bubbles of....yeah.

Thanks to all of the comments I received on this photo. The individual in the pit was not lowered for the purpose of the photo. This is a lift station to move the sewage from a low area to a high area of the base. There are pumps that are covered by the sewage and the yellow floats you see are waht control these pumps. The poor guy had to untangle the floats so they would work properly again and I seized the opportunity to shoot this photo.

I had to compromise between focusing on the bublles that were more visible or the entire scene. I chose the latter and unfrotunately the bubbles weren't as visible, but trust me they are there!

To the comment about going to college. I guess there are those that think that serving in the military is not a good enough occupation. Fortunately the rest of the country didn't vote for the other guy who felt that way. Who knows where this country would be with John Kerry in charge!

Thanks again all!

Wow, just stumbled across this thanks to the 'fav pic' thread...
Great photo journalistic shot! I don't understand how folks don't see the bubbles, I sure do :-) Thanks for all that you folks do for our country!!!

Hi from the Critique Club.

Although the subject is not all that pleasant. Technically this a nice picture. Color, clarity, lighting and point of view are all spot on.

You captured a great expression on the soldiers face, which just adds to the mire he is in.

As far as meeting the challenge, well, with all that gushing water in the back, you can only assume that there were bubbles.

I think the score was fair and comments were mainly nice and supportive.

Good Luck and may you stay safe in these trouble times.
Karen

I guess this is the one time that it would be acceptable to say "this shot really stinks", in a good way of course, fun stuff not what you would expect in Bubbles challenge........

Priceless expression. excellent lighting in what looks like a very difficult situation. I think this would make a great "demotivation" poster with a caption something like "Always remember - there are worse jobs than yours" 8 from me.

A good photo but maybe for another challenge. Cant really see any obvious bubbles. I would personally crop some of the right side of the photo off so that your subject is sitting in the first third on the right.

This is why it is important to go to college.

love his expression and the way the lines of perspective seem to be damning him to some fecal dimension of hell. this might have been easier for me to take in black and white. 7
