As I read the news lately We keep hearing stories about little girls that are coming up missing. Many times these small girls are found murdered. As horrific as that is, it has really been on my mind lately. Someday I will have a daughter of my own I am sure. The thought of loosing her is horrible. My wife and I were traveling through MO when we found this little cemetary. I wandered around until I found this little girls grave. It was on a hill underneath a large Oak tree. It was very peaceful. She died 32 years ago. It still makes me sad to think and imagine all the pain that her family must have gone through when they lost her.

I think you got screwed for submitting a dark side of childhood. I absolutely loved this image. It would have been better to lower the camera abit and with a wider angle looking UP at the tree, bu the B&W rendition is good.

How sad that childhood is the only part of life that some people live. 7.

Very disturbing but a good photograph. Not necessarily on topic though. This is a child without childhood but the challenge is the other way around.

I don't see this as an "impression of childhood". I see it more as one child's childhood, so you lose points for that (sorry). Otherwise it is a pretty good photo. I would like the background to be less in focus though.

another very sad but well done photo

nicely framed and good light. not sure this says anything about childhood, though. the tombstone doesn't illustrate anything about this childs childhood except the fact that it was cut short. a good photo on its own, but not great for the challenge.

This is a nice photo in composition and an effective use of B&W...unfortunately I dont see it as meeting the challenge. This is one child who sadly didn't have a full childhood, but not a representation of"childhood".

This is a sad picture… It is also a superbly executed shot. I might not like the idea and I might not like being forced to look at something that I'd rather not see, but, from the point of view of the challenge you have to ask: Does it fit? Yes, and very powerfully… Is it a good photographically? Yes, it's damn good… Is the composition OK? Can't fault it… Did it catch your eye? Yes… Did it make you think or bring out any emotion? Yes – both counts… How do you score something like this? (10) Controversial, but gutsy picture…

Painful, but a reality, I guess. The bw works well, here, establishing a sombre mood. I almost think more of the stone needs to be in the picture, because the tree almost becomes my focal point, but that is just me. karmat

This is very sad...but I like a photo that makes you feel something... 7

Very poignant.
I'd like this even better as a landscape shot using the lower half of the photo only.

Strong image... Did you consider it with the whole of the tombstone in the shot? The crop seems to have been a bit close...

This is moving, works well in black and white and has no swings in it. To be fussy, I wish there were fewer gravestones beyond the tree as that part looks a little cluttered to me. But I still think it's one of the best ten photos here.

Very touching & nice use of black & white.

Oh my goodness, this is very sad indeed, but I wouldn't have submitted this photo for this challenge.

Boy, that's kind of a sad interpretation of the challenge... but still very nicely done. I like the composition; the subject made me give my little girl a hug...

Having recently just lost a young child, not mine, but very close to me, this photo is hard for me to appreciate, however there are some pretty good technical aspects in my mind. The lighting and angle are good, and the background fits the photo. Just to the right of the photo, there is something white, and it's hard to tell what it is, but it might be flowers?? would either be better to include it all the way, or leave it out. (if possible).Sorry about the personal preference at this time, not your fault, just bad timing of sorts. Good luck in the challenge.

composition good and works very well in black and white..but I find the subject too depressing for this challenge..7

Freah idea. This one never occured to me.
Subject heavy yes, but valid for sure. I like the uneven light on the face of the stone and across the grass. Nice job.

a powerful image, I love the tree in the background, it's nice as a black and white
