Macro of a dinner fork. Lit with a single desklamp at camera right, using an A4 sheet of office paper as a background. I used my 50mm lens reversed mounted, no electrical connection between camera and lens means no recorded aperture information.

I like the minimalistic look of this shot and the shallow DOF helps to accentuate that. I did post this image on my PaW blog earlier this week. I believe that this is not an issue, looking at the number of comments my blog gets, not many people could have seen it.

Post processing:
RAW conversion.
Slight crop to 3:2 aspect ration.
Levels, curves and some minor spot editing.
Resize, smart sharpen, border and save for web.

Hi from the Critique Club.

Fit: A fork is used to prepare food so it fits ok.

Composition: Good composition for such an extreme macro. You have got the fork placed so that we have a nice leading curve from bottom left up to top right.

Technical: The lighting and DOF is good. If anything the DOF is a bit too shallow given there is nothing in the background to isolate the fork from.

Feel: Here is where the image may have lost a few points. It's a nice macro that meets challenge but it lacks an emotional feel. I know that's hard from a fork but the viewers need to be able to connect with the image. If you look at the high raters in your portfolio you can see there is something in them that viewers can relate to.

PM me if you have any queries.

I gave this a 9. Nice clean lines and composition and you got the focus in the *perfect* spot.

Nice experiment in selective focus, good angle so the subject extends across the frame.

Abstract idea is good, but for me the dof is way too shallow and it doesn't say kitchenware to me.

"your task is to shoot the stuff you use to PREPARE your food."

Besides that, well composed and lightened. black border fits well, too.
