 Went to one of the two hardware stores around the corner and said "Chains". The owner who previously was at the location of the other hardware store said "Right back here." We went back and he had more than a dozen varieties. I picked six and he cut two foot long samples of each. He said "Hmmmm....what might you be doing?" And I said "Taking a picture." He said "Really?" And I said "Yes! I want to thank you for the yellow paint by the way. I stuck a sunflower in it and they put it up on the Kodak site for a month." He was almost impressed. I paid and went home.

Still had that coat hanger running the length of a piece of white poster board over the shooting area. I slipped the end of each chain on the hanger and then again on the other end of each chain. I separated each of the chains with an office clip. Lit with two 120w halogen flood lights pointing them up two the white poster board overhead and also had ambient light in the apartment. I used a preset white balance.


Post: Convert from raw in PSElements 3.0 with a +0.33 exposure compensation. Power retouche dynamic range compressor. Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue saturation. Sharpen. At full size there were a few specks in the black all over here and there so they were healed or cloned away. Rotate 180°. Flip horizontal. Rotate 90° left. Resize. Sharpen.
