Not edited. I put the moth on a black brush in a tomato machine to get the background for this shot. The sparkles are tips of the brush bristles. MF Micro Nikkor 55mm. @ f16 and on cam flash.

Really really nice one. (Someday I may find out what is a tomato machine...)

I like this as is; it's not too dark on my (laptop) monitor, and the details show through nicely. Good capture under "immediate" conditions.

They don't have very long lives, do they? It might have just been cold because it doesn't look very ragged as Noraneko pointed out. They tend to get raggedy toward the end of their short days. Neat picture - thanks for sharing!

I am a big fan of moths - this is a polyphemus moth, named for the head cyclops in the Odyssey. The cyclops, as you probably know, had one eye, and his name was Polyphemus. Hence this moth, with the "eyes" on its wings. I think the PP you chose is interesting. You did a good job of removing your finger. I might brighten up the area around the moth's abdomen just a tad. A very nice specimen, BTW - not tattered at all!

another great shot of the moth waddy ... it was more focused you your hand tho ... its hard to do things differently to what we're used to ... like for starters the camera isnt designed to be used left handed .. never even thought of that before ... but it appears you got a better result under the more difficult conditions !!!
