I admit that by all technical aspects of photography, this is not a great photo. So, I agree with the voters' assessment & score because that is pretty much what I would have scored it.
Yet, against the backdrop of the photo I almost chose (an airplane @ approx. 300 ft. captured with a 300mm lens...possible 3.5 finisher,) this photo of Shanna is pretty good.
I continue to be amazed at how a color filter used in Basic Editting can set-off the subject as though I had selectively editted the subject in Advanced Edit because adding the Sepia filter was my last real adjustment to the basic photo before sharpening & resizing.
BOTTOM LINE: I can confidently say that I am a better photographer today than I was when I signed-on with DPC at Christmas, 2005, however, I readily admit that I am still, too, inexperienced to know immediately what I am doing wrong (or poorly) at times. For that I thank DPC for the instant feedback of photo-grading. I especially consider myself honored when anyone takes time to type a related comment.
A commenter is one of my teachers for that challenge.
O, well, I can't "wait around to get better" before I archive my daughter's childhood. I simply anticipate being a Daddy/photographer that my "High Schooler" will one day be proud to claim as her own! :)
