A brief entry from the Critique Club
Good idea that probably would have worked better on a darker background and with gentler lighting on the apple part. There is probably a question of timing with this idea that does not quite work: the fact that you chimerical fruit has been neatly cut and that part of it is already disposed of situates this scene way after the moment of original astonishment.
Keeping in scene the missing quarter and possibly the tool that cut it would have meant more work, I know, but would have depicted convincingly this impression of sudden surprise.

| Cute idea, though I personally don't think this was the point of the surprise challenge. A bit overexposed on the apple; some oversharpening noticealble by the stem; Also, as a special effect, the apple isn't integrated well enough to cause any surprise. |

| the premise is good. a bit staged (but of course most in this challenge are). The lighting is super and your color saturation is good. The angle of the cut also helps this image...I wonder if the feel of balance might have worked more if reversed? |

| Nice set up. The only thing I don't like about it, is the oversharpening. Way too much. The white lines almost destroy all the hard work you did to set up the shot. 7 |

| Took me a second to figure out you had placed an apple in there. The green blended in so well with the inside of the orange. A red apple would have really made this stand out and the light coming in is well done but there is just a tad bit of flare on the top of the orange there. A more solid background and a red apple would have gotten you a 10, as is an 8 |

| An applerange! Delicious. A novel idea. I like the texture of the orange peel - light is a bit bright on the top right. The whole thing feels a bit over sharpened. |

| I like this, like the idea. I don't like the lack of contrast. Maybe the orange in the pear? Anyway the light is strong on the right and burns out the detail in the area we really need to see the most. Make sense? I hope so. Again good idea, creative. |
