"Chisai tsuchi kuchi"? The two characters go together to make the word "shokichi", which means 'little luck'. I guess these pencils are used in some fortune telling way. There would also be "chukichi" and "daikichi", medium and lots of luck (fortune). Interesting that someone thought it was a DH symbol...

I suspect that you'll get many comments on the focus, but that is PRECISELY what I like about this photo. It's clear that it's an intended blur and that matters to me. Also, really liked the contrast of the wooden burnt sienna color against the blue. 8

I really like the colors and composition. How'd you do the motion-blur-type-effect?

Love focus/ DOF effects, unusual composition and weird blue background.

Pretty good DOF, though the bottom pencil seems a bit too soft. I also can't tell if these are really pencils, since the transition looks too smooth from wood to lead.

Fantastic focus, great framing, and nice color. I think I'd like it a little better without the pencil in the background.

Great shot...

Beautiful! I love the soft focus, and how the only sharp thing is the characters. Lovely colours. The focus seems to be radial, like you used a magnifying glass or something. Well done.

translation into english, please. peace.

The depth of field really makes this photo. 8.

This made a great macro. I love the colors and the shallow DOF. Suggestions...ummm..you might try a different crop so that it is less centered, but not necessary.

love this soft focus effect and the picture over all. Very nicely done

What does that mean?

Soft focus filter is going to get you misunderstood by the masses. Well done shot and I see the point behind the filter. You really got me thinking with the DH and symbol (could that be OH and symbol?) This is interesting, but I do question the filter use (did I confuse you there?) Even though I can see that you were centering attention on the middle of the pencil and the other's tip, there still seems to be too much fuzz in the center area. 7 Swash

The pencils of the world. The tip of that pencil seems to have a curved look. Is it suposed to be that way? I like how this isn't your typical "#2" pencil. And it only brings wonder to what the writing says. The focus is a little soft for my taste, but that's just an opinion. Great shot and good luck with the challenge.

Verry well done! I see the composition rule of thirds applied as well as diagonal lines and selective focus to direct the viewers gaze to the characters. One of my top ten this week.

i love the soft focus on everything but the red! great background colors...nice job! Lisa

Heh. I like the title. Although to be pedantic, it's "chiisai".

Wow -- the focus on this image is stunning. I'm really interested to know how it was done. The colors are also spectacular. Great job.
