A very unusual, very old (1850s or so) rocking chair passed down as a family heirloom. Goes back 4 generations in the owner's family. The doily, teddy bear etc were already on the chair and fit into the shot nicely so I left them there, and the owner's bf had just fired up the fireplace - making for a nice, cosy atmosphere which I tried to capture.

pp: rotate, crop, curves, brightnes/contrast, saturation/lightness, crop, smudge out a small cable below the fire irons, shadows/highlights, warming filter, resize, unsharp mask, save for web

Hi, Greetings from the Critique Club:

Composition: Oh, this one I just had to work with. It is so inviting and just plain adorable. I love the colours and the compositon. The set up is great...but that Teddy...steals the show.

Technical: I only had your small image to work with so please overlook the harsher details...but this is just to give you an idea of what I am talking about. I gave it a shot of Shadow/Highlight and then played with the Brightness/Contrast as well as the Hue/Saturation. I then added a new layer and gave it a 50% grey fill turned to Overlay Blend mode. Then using my black and white paint I painted with varying opacities to highlight certain areas as well as darken the edges. It is a great method to play around with.

Overall: I think this is a beautiful image that has loads of potential. Keep up the great work.

I like the colors and the tone of this image. The fire in the stove is very inviting. With the tightness of the setup, there doesn't seem to be room for anyone to sit and relax, and the chair is not inviting since it has the lace on the seat and is already full of objects. Also the back of the chair is too the fire, which seem unnatural. I think there is too much here. Either a cozy inviting scene, or just the still life with the chair and objects might have worked better.

The color and the whole tone is very nice. It just seems a bit cluttered to me with that fireplace background.

photo seems busy...especially since there is no room for me to sit and rock with you...LOL

Well done with the exposure - I know to get the flames looking good and the chair well light would have taken some effort
