Challenge: Free Study 2007-02 (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S50
Location: East Building of National Gallery (remember?)
Date: Feb 11, 2007
Aperture: f2.8
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/25
Galleries: Candid, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Feb 28, 2007

This was taken from one of the upper levels of the East Building of the National Gallery in Washington after seeing the Jasper Johns show. I'm not sure what they were waiting for, but they were waiting so nicely.

Processing here was a crop, a quadtone, some sharpenizing, and that's it.

Thought this would have scored higher than this.
But congrats on your 6+
Keep up the good work.

I had really hoped to see this place higher than it did. This is a great sidestep of the typical DPC eyecandy images. Loved it in challenge and love it now.

I understand the use of negative space at times. In this case, I think it's too much and puts the line of people too close to the horizontal mid-point. A classic ROT crop would have given this a stronger presentation IMO. I like the movement suggested by the person at the bottom as he moves into the photo, and the line of people is interesting to look at/wonder about.

Best of luck to you in the challenge.

I think I'd like this more if the guy with the newspaper weren't walking through it ... I'd like to know why they're standing in line ...

Ah. I love that little frisson when stuff like this pops up on the screen. In almost every other way of viewing images you know what's coming next: here you just get - just occasionally - a complete and delightful surprise. I love the readerly quality, and the dissociation of them all, and yet the association of them all. You'se clever.
