My second attempt at gymnastics, and overall worse than the first. The lighting was worse in the venue, which is hard to image. This shot ISO 3200 and only 1/180 of a second and it was purposely underexposed by a stop (which I adjusted in Capture NX). Furthermore, I did not get the 70-200 2.8 rental in time so I was using my Manual Focus 105 2.5. That was a challenge in itself.
I did get some keepers, and this is probably one of my favorites of the bunch. It is my niece again, just beginning to start her floor routine.
Post consisted of Capture NX, some WB fixes and some contrast adjustments. Downloaded Neat Image to try out, and had two passes with it, once before editing, and once slight one after resized. Very little crop except to 5x7 format (off the top). I'm not very good with this post stuff, oh well. If I were printing this out though, post would have been totally different. I would have gone for sharpness over noise reduction.
Do to Free Study, most likely score just a 5.0.
Post Challenge Comments:
Here is the non-crop. Probably a bit better as the focus holds up.
I like the comp, just not the noise issue. Plus the fact I got a little too aggressive with the noise reduction (my 2nd time.. :(
I actually find the comments funny, asking about the ISO. Yes, it was supposed to be that high, I only got 1/180 at 2.5 (my largest aperture). Too bad you can't use flash for gymnastics, anything under 1/500 of a second comes out blurry. I need an 85 1.4 or something.

I dunno...maybe it's just me but I like the soft focus. |

This was a very nicely composed shot. The colors are nice. I think what hurt was that the focus on the front person was too soft. If it were sharper, I think your score would have been much higher. |

There's something quite wonderful and lovely about this. |

Not a bad idea with the main subject forward and in the right third but she is out of sharp focus, different cropping limiting the harsh yellow background would have been better, the onlookers being out of focus would be good if the other comments were corrected. |

The fact that it is shot at iso 3200 makes very little impact on the image: it lacks sharpness, detail, and is noisy. I like the colour treatment though. |
