hey Patsy,
You got hit hard on this for two main reasons in my opinion.
The voters had no way of knowing really, that the one wrestler was a girl. I've watched dozens & dozens of girls on the mats, and at times can't tell, even up close. This is the case here. I can see it now, but had you not said it, then was an easy miss.
The other - well, fitting this into this particular challenge, in your perspective worked, because you had the vision of what it was about - the voters couldn't see it though, as they were looking for classic, rather than abstract.

Should totally have changed the title of this. Perhaps more would have gotten the point if I had titled it "Female and Male of the Species"?

In my opinion it definitely does meet the challenge, even if you include the "School Days" aspect - since this is a "school event". It is not "just a sports picture" My thinking with this shot, and the reason I titled it like I did, and the reason I chose this over shots of my doctor's office while I was dealing with pneumonia, was that wrestling is predominantly a male activity. Females who participate have to be especially strong and smart. Females who make it to the point this one did are certainly among the strongest and smartest, and are exceptionally adept at adapting to their environment.

If you think about evolution (- whether you believe in that "theory" or not (and it is certainly a part of "biology"), the strongest and smartest members of a species(and those most able to adapt to their environment)are the ones who are naturally selected to continue that species.

So what I was trying to convey was that this female wrestler was a pathfinder for the human species, and as such, was a perfect example (was going to say specimen, but it didn't quite fit)for this challenge.

Hey Patsy,

I like the shot, but missed the point. Best wishes, Van

Hello Patsy.
I like youe image, But I think some people will not share youe affection
as I have entered Judo Photographs with very little credit.
The person who said yourbackground was messy needs a reality check.
Are you supposed to go over the otherside and tidy up !

Cheers.
Joe

The background is a little messy - it distracts me from the main subject. The compositon is not quite right for me either.

I don't find the photo particularly exciting. It lacks any energy. Plus, you are relying on the title to connect the shot to the challenge. I think Iunderstand where you were going with this, but the photo reminds me more of "School Days: yearbook candids for the sports section"

Only the title makes this a biology photo

Are you implying girls are weaker? Hope not! :)

Biology? maybe...? eh It doesn't feel like the girl is in focus which kind of throws the picture off.
