Since it's Sunday, I thought it would be a good day to pay tribute to one of the most awesome parts of my life. This church has meant so much to me! I found it at a time in my life when my whole family had pretty much written off church. My husband was very disillusioned with church! Not God so much -- just churches -- because of what he thought had way too many self-righteous fundamentalists in them. My 2 sons were in college -- making some choices with their lives that were. . .well. ..every parent's worst nightmare.

But this church. River City Community Church is so amazing. Real people (not necessarily "church" people) living real life! With so much grace, humor, with a complete absence of judgmentalism. It was like a warm blanket on a cold day! One by one as my family got to very dark places in their lives -- places they couldn't handle on their own -- they turned to One who could!

Now, my youngest son is an awesome youth pastor here, helping kids keep from making the same mistakes he did; and my oldest son is an associate pastor of ministries. "Coincidentally" their college studies fit right in with their new career paths. It's so amazing to realize how God was working out a plan for their lives all along even when they were so far away from Him!

The church has about 1,200+ attenders each week in 3 services (and growing every week :), and I can't say enough about how awesome it is to belong to this River City family :)

Reminds me of Ansel Adams. Do I need to say more? :)

Thanks for sharing this important part of yourself, Sandy. We've discussed religion, but now I have some backstory to go with our chats. What you describe is the very best that religion of all stripes can bring us.

I've been meaning to get a shot of my temple; you've inspired me to get over there!
