Well, no serious pictorial depicting life in this part of Texas would be complete without our little mascot the Armadillo. It is THE symbol of "all things Texas". Sweet little things. I had to chase this little fellow around in the brush -- got my legs all scratched up -- but hey -- what's a few scrapes and bleeding legs for you guys, right? Tee hee. . .don't feel guilty, this photo was taken a while back, but he just had to be included in my "Where I Live" project. He had to.

The armadillo is the subject of many Texas songs, the logo for many Texas products, and the name for many Texas "places to be". We do love our armadillos!

Wonderful shot, really. I love the red hues in the nose, and the way they show across the bridge and then are brightest in the tip. Excellent capture of this little beastie!

Gorgeous contrast with the grey against the brown, and with the green leaves for a little kick.
I like the way that they jump straight up in the air when they are startled. We have them here too, but they are more tan looking than grey. I think that the ones here are the 13 band variety.
I can't help but think about my traveling musician days when I see this. To break the ice with a new waitress at resturants I would order a "Ram ham spam beef bear and buffalo club sandwich, with a side of octopus arms and lizard gravy in an armadillo half shell. " It would get a good reaction every time. I still do that once in a while.

Wow, it almost looks like a sculpture, not real! I've never seen one in real life before, they are so cool.

LOL! I love him, Sandy! Has an almost angelic look, doesn't he? Perfectly composed, great light, and the green leaves add just the right touch!

Just kiddin. Being from Florida, I saw many of these animals but never as cutely depicted at this. Great job Sandy!

I think all of your pictures start with the words "I had to include this" or "It wouldn't be complete without this".
There's nothing wrong with that, I think it's great.
It's just that I can think of about three things that have to be included in my hometown pictorial!!!!
And that's why there are several pictures of the bridge and the pier and the lighthouse :-)

Great photo again Sandy and classily (is that a word?) presented.

Yay! I was wondering if you would find one of these. Goos to see them alive. :) Plus, it is an assume picture.

OMG, this is the best photo of an armadillo I've ever seen, and I've taken quite a few myself. I LOVE this, definitely into favorites. I can't believe you managed to combine those lovely green leaves with this little guy.
