That must be one BIG pencil in the middle.

I appreciate the time taken to make this design - but the picture ends up being very flat when taken from above the pencils. If you could have made the design so the pencils were standing up (or maybe if they were all leaning against the big pencil in the middle? - and then taken the picture at an even level with them I think it would be more appealing. The lighting is good and your focus is good too = 5

How about a sheet as a background? What if instead of the exacting symmetry of the layout, it was a bit more random...or lead my eye to the large pencil in a different arrangement? I like the variety of pencils and the color choices you made. It just lacks that POW! to make it an exceptional photo. This will be a good week to more closely examine the very graphic submissions. A lot of people tried similiar techniques, only a few very successfully. 5

This definitely fits the challenge. The background color detracts from the brilliance on the pencils.

That's a BIG pencil! Nice idea and well executed. Needed perhaps some different lighting to give it a little more pazazz.

I don't think the challenge name should be used in the title.

I fail to see what the elaborate line up of the pencils and chalk must convey but I just may not be familiar with it. The middle pencil must be huge if the other pencils are indeed norrmal size. Don't find the color of the background helpful; black would have been much better and stronger. 5 Journey

This is very pretty. I would love to see the patterns you went through to get this one. the lighting is great. no distracting shadows or bright spots. I think it would have a slight bit more artistic appeal if you had taken the time to space evenly and arrange colors. There are 2 yellow things down in the bottom left and no other yellow around the circle. In the triangles in the middle, there are 2 yellow erasers in the bottom triangle, and a yellow and a blue eraser in the top triangle. You did a great job of pattern though. Pencil, chalk, pencil, eraser. All the way around. I also like the color of the background. Makes the colors of the chalk, pencils and erasers stand out. Nice job and good luck in the challenge.

Nice, but just a bit too busy for me.

A different color as a background could really make these pencils stand out much more and be much more effective.

Very interesting arrangement! This might have worked better on a plain white background, like posterboard, but still very nice. 6 -lennier
