 Not exactly a rare species, but a wild one nonetheless. I spent so much time with these guys I could tell by their vocalizing and body language when one was about to take off, which gave me many chances to get in-flight pictures. I particularly liked the wing detail and position in this one.

PP - converted from RAW, rotated slightly, cropped, dodged the eye and cheek marking, decreased saturation on cheek marking, brought up the midtones a bit, burnt white on tail slightly, resized, sharpened, added border

Mary this is gorgeous! I loved it the minute I saw it in the challenge. It reminds me of one of those elegant framed prints hanging in a man's office. What a tribute to your photographic skill (and patience) to be able to tell when one was taking off! This is one of the great ones in this aMAZING challenge!

Now there's some mighty nice timing. Nice, sharp capture. The border distracts for me, but I am not one to judge on borders :P Good luck with this one.

Good detail on the bird. I think you might have been better off going with an outside border or none at all so the subject had more breathing space. Just a thought.

Really nice. I like the neutral tones - very natural. The stop action is flawless. Maybe it doesn't have the overall WOW factor, but it is certainly a well executed shot. I can see this in a sporting life magazine. I like the frame too.
