From my vacation to Maui in May of 2006. I braved some very cold winds to catch the sunset from the visitor area of Mt Haleakala, about 11,000 feet above sea level. The sea of clouds was at about 6000 feet.

I actually only did basic processing; auto levels and curves, using the people for the dark point, and the middle of the sun for white, and resized to submit. I like the burst around the sun, though there's some random color in the upper left.

Wow, stunning! I'm very jealous of the location.

Composition-wise, I would've preferred to see the sun and the people to the right rather than in the centre, but then, I've no idea what the rest of the surroundings looked like, so it might not have worked. I'm also surprised you didn't edit some of the strange pink sunspots in the top left corner. Otherwise - god that's gorgeous. I wish I was in Hawaii!

A terrific silhoutte, man on top of the world capture. I like the gently slope of the mountain which I think adds a tremendous amount and helps move your eye left to right. The person walking also helps with the same eye movement. The rounded clouds then moves you back the other way. Finally, the centered sun lining up with the bottom folks brings you up and down. As you can tell, eye movement is terrific here. A wonderful photograph.

Spec-frickin-TACULAR! Congrats on your score.

I just had to laugh at the person who complained that the sun was blown out. :)

Woo! After a string of pictures landing in the bottom 15%, it's nice to be on the plus side of 50!

Yes, the altitude in the title is accurate; I took this from the top of Mt Haleakala in Maui, and instead of ocean there were clouds at 6000 feet.

That is gorgeous. The only negative comment I could make is that I think it would be stronger compositionally if the sun and people were either on the left or right, but not so much in the middle. The eyes tend to go up and down between the two, but there is nothing to attract the eyes to look at the rest of the picture.

Oh how I adore perspective shots like this. And this one with its ethereal sky and beautiful blue tones. Wow! I can almost see the inspirational verse tastefully displayed on this -- matted and framed hanging on a wall! Beautiful work!
