 originally shot for 30 day SP challenge.
Thought it was kinda funky and thought I'd enter it here to see what happens. : )

bit of dodge and burn on the eyes as well as a little cloning of unwanted highlights.
sharpened then added some blur.

oh, the thing on my melon is an aluminium fruit bowl which reminded me of the hats DEVO wore, hence the title.

Back to comment: I'm betting this image is pretty close to what you were trying to achieve. However, the limited depth of view doesn̢۪t work very well with the head gear, what ever it is. The lighting is pretty decent but the guy̢۪s left eye looks too bright for the amount of light on that side of his face. I̢۪m assuming you did a separate levels or curves layer for the eyes and processed them at the same time.

I like the balance of blur and sharpness. If I can make one complaint: I wish I could see his raised eyebrow. I know it's difficult with the bowl on the head, though.
