Happy with the high score, thanks to all who liked my photo. This beautiful creature is at the Carlisle Visitor Center near my home where they house birds that are hurt and cannot be released back into the wild. I could take photos of this eagle all day...this photo was taken through a cage.

A very daring entry. I applaud you for that. But, I applaud you even more for what an outstanding entry it is, in my eyes. The photo definitely stops me in my tracks and demands my attention. Technically, there is not much I can say, other than everything is just dead spot on. Focus is great, the eyes are nice and sharp, awesome exposure. A totally great edit. I can see detail in the lights and darks, just awesome. I see all the veins in the feathers, I feel like I could reach out and touch that beak. He for sure stands out against the dark bg. A magical composition, and a 'pose' that I honestly don't normally see in 'avian' shots. I really am afraid that a lot of voters may slam this beautiful image for not being a traditional 'portrait of a person', but to this viewer, at least, you really have nailed a true 'portrait' much more than a lot of the entries in the field. And on a couple of different levels I might add also. You really have captured the character, the true essence of this magnificent bird, and all that it stands for. You can call it a portrait. You can call it anything. What you can not call it is anything but a totally outstanding image. Please excuse me now, while I lovingly gaze upon this masterpiece a bit longer, before placing in my favs with a perfect score of 10. Thank-you.

This is just too good to be wasted on a bird even if its an eagle. - 8

wow .. wot an amazing photograph .. you've captured something very unique here .. the sense of power in the bird comes thru .. the eye's and beak give it a predatory feel, which is is of course but wotever ... its head on the side adds to the composition ..
interesting crop, excellent contrasts, and amazing detail ... =9

Oh this is stunning! At first when I saw the thumbnail. . .even as much as I love bird photos, I didn't think this would wow me very much -- but when I opened it up, it took my breath away! The detail in those feathers just blows me away! Gotta give this portrait a 10!

WOW!!!

I'm giving this a 10+++ because even in this exemplary offering of B&W portraits this one stands out. The more I look at it trying to find one single smallest detail or flaw, the more I admire this photograph. This is one of the finest pictures I have ever seen! 10+++

Good capture. Can't say I'm keen on animals in a portrait, but a great shot none-the-less. 6
