Everyone seems to offer suggestions for post, so I'll throw one in for pre -- knowing how hot that sky was going to be, I would have put a few more shots in the bag in case I couldn't salvage the sky later.

In this scenario I can picture a shot where you got much closer to the cows, framing more cow heads in the shot and going a bit more profile, moooving your perspective down the line of the fence. I would have raised my camera height a bit, too in order to crop more sky out of the shot.

Some days you just can't save a sky in post! Well, you sorta can... When the 'Best of 2006' challenge is complete, take a look at my entry to see what I did to save a blown sky that took up 50-60% of my image!

I agree about the tighter crop. I am using a lap-top's monitor so take the comments accordingly :) the cows look great but for some overcast light on their backs (not a real problem there). About the sky, yes, it is quite distracting, there are different ways to sort that out specially if you are shooting RAW. Here a useful tutorian on blending exposures

Hello from a teammate! I really like this shot as well. I personally would have liked to see a tighter crop on the cows....they seem a tad far away...IMO. Also, maybe if you had tweaked the colors a little bit more, it may look brighter. Overall it's a really nice shot. ~Magen

Hey Roz!

This is a nice capture. Composition is really excellent and the focus seems dead on. The first cow is awesome & I kinda almost feel as if I am looking at it & it is looking at me. When a foto evokes emaotions, you know you've done something reallyy right. Good job!

Some suggestions/critiques:
The sky is blown out and a bit distracting. I think this shot would have scored far more better if this were not the case. I can think of several things in post processing that might have correcte this. An adjustment laer of levels to darken the sky & lighten the foreground (everything else looks a bit darker compared to the blown out sky). You could also try a bit of dodging & burning too to soften up the sky. I do have to say that when I look at the picture the cows keep me engaged and I have to force myself to look beyond it to see the sky.

Overall, this is a great shot. Well done.
Peace
Rooster

The grass is so vibrant in this photo! It makes everything else look a little washed out, but it's a very striking affect.

Those cows are awesome. I really like the great tones, color and composition of this. But that sky has some awfully strong eye pulling powers.

I like this. Too bad the sky is overexposed.

No light and no contrast

If you had exposed for the foreground, this would be a great shot. Use your program to selectively darken sky and brighten the rest.
