A newer edit from a scan of a shot I took at the May 2000 launch of the shuttle Atlantis. What a sight!!

I shot it with a Nikon N6006 with a 70-300mm Quantary lens. How I wish I could get down there again to shoot it with the equipment I have now!

I shot this from the press area. This goes down as one of the most incredible things I've ever experienced.

Since I shot this in the film days, I don't remember for sure what settings I used to take my series of launch shots. But I based them on this chart, provided by NASA:

Wow. So there's no chance you can get me into the press area? lol

Amazing. I got tickets to the night launch this April. Any recommendations? What were the camera settings for this photo?

I was also at that launch. I lived in Tampa at the time. We caught the evening news and saw the launch was that night and decided to pile into the car and drive the couple of hours over there since we'd never seen a night launch. I expected it to be neat, but it was really more like a religious experience. It positively left me speechless (and that ain't an easy thing to do :) It was a little like watching a sunrise and sunset compressed into about 60 seconds. Positively amazing.

I had a digital camera that I am almost positive was made by Apple and one of their early laptops and gathered a crowd at Denny's on the way home (in Orlando if I recall) while looking at my fuzzy little photos. Nothing like the gorgeous capture you got. If you decide to put it up for prints let me know, I'd love to have a copy!

Hey... I was at that launch. A friend of mine got me a pass so I could get to the causeway where there was just water then the launch pad. Only people closer I think where the astronauts!

This was before I had a camera so I took a video instead. Very cool!
