Regarding your photographer's comments - one thing that a lot of people will recommend is to not use the automatic feature on your camera. I had difficulty with this first but playing around with the manual settings gave me a feel for what types of changes had what effect. You can also try this tutorial for a beginning.

In the image I really love the red and gold tone - especially how the gold color spots on the barn are matched by the vegetation. It is a very lovely effect.

i am mostly interested in the barn, but a bit frustrated that it's so small and blocked by the grass. would love to see this shot again with the barn taking up most of the frame, maybe portrait orientation, and the contrast of the white door/window looks like it could really show some promise. and obviously a full 620 or 740 pixels high/wide.

Beings you want to enter challenges and learn from that I chose this image to comment on. First your image is very small as I am sure you got tons of comments on. I amnot sure what you are editing with but this might help: //www.dpchallenge.com/tutorial.php?TUTORIAL_ID=26

Also remember this is an art site. So you need to seek out interesting perspectives and stuff that shows off the beauty of your subject, beauty is found in everything. Even if it is just a barn take the time to walk around it, get low, get high, try different angles and see what you can come up with.

Get a bigger size, I like the simple subject, though. 5

This looks like a decent shot, but it's really too small to be able to rate effectively.

The bushes are very distracting from the barn since the picture is so small. Try again.
