Hmmm... a tough conceptual challenge posted on a long holiday weekend... how could I possibly resist? ;-)

This was the easiest of several ideas to execute. I just cut up an old wooden background panel with a reciprocating saw to make the "bite" and carried it down to a pond across the street. The panel was supported over the water with a couple of poles staked to the ground, and I tossed a big rock into the water to make the splash. The sky was overcast and I waited too long (as usual), so I had to make do with fading sunlight. The panel is pretty useless now, but it was worth a laugh.

The bite is probably too "neat" and rounded, but it's supposed to be "cartoonish." I figured if it was more irregular it might appear messy or look like it broke off rather than a bite. The edge of the panel could have been better, too. Meh... I don't expect a really high score anyway.

Processing: Convert from RAW, Levels, Curves, Shadow/Highlight to deepen the light tones, Channel Mixer for saturation, USM, and a little Photo Filter for warmer color.

Dang. In the end I guessed wrong. Ken (Art ROFLMAO) is a wood working kind of dude at times, and almost as clever as you (ssshhh - don't tell him I said that) :P

Congrats on another high finish Shannon.

Nice idea. The lighting has let this down though. Needs a little warm sunshine

Oyyyyy! Totally unrealistic, I mean, that bobber should be under water by now, and the rod bent, right? And that bite. But, man, it works. BTW, I even worry about swimming pools, that's how big of an effect "Jaws" had. (no vote :)

Nice idea, thogh it is not very realistic
Sharks are not fresh water creatures only one type is and if a shark were to take a bite the marks would be very jagged since sharks have multiple rows of teeth.

I love the ripples giving the scene some action. Can't decide if I like the cartoonish shape of the teeth marks or if it spoils it. Eenie-meenie... like it.

LMAO!!! :) Extremely creative shot, and very well executed. The composition is awesome. And that's some DPC dedication to take the time to cut all the bite marks out of that wood. :D

I love this shots creativity, though I must say the bite marks should probably be a bit sharper. All in all though fantastic!!!! an 8

Hmmm... who could go through this much trouble for a challenge entry, I wonder? VERY funny and well-executed as usual. Something seems slightly weird about the colors on this one, but it's still certainly something that cracked me up.

nice! you could have made the wooden plank more realistic by sharp cut marks rather than circular
