Very nice shot--and you're right. It didn't deserve the low scores (though it did really well overall anyway.

One technical comment: the horizon is not straight and really should be. Unfortunately, that will also reduce the angle on the lovely angled walkway.

Well, it fared well (11/323 is not bad at all), which surprised me considering its quite an artsy shot. Beauty is so rare a thing.

Well, no! :-)
Actually it was pouring and I stayed under a small tree... The lense (Canon 20mm f/2,8) had to be dried immediately after.... but is quite waterproof, yes:-)

Thank you all for the attention you had for this photo of mine. And thank you to whom has voted for it, of course. Nice challenge, I would say.

No no no. This was the winner, honestly: those other ten shots are an illusion, created by the masters of un-challenging images to decieve you. Though it's a given of dpc that the more complex the image the better it's going to have to be to penetrate everyone's brain.

I'd consider Kiwi's point though - about space to the left of the figures. Not so much for their placement though (I like that you only show the world they're moving into), but to complete the junction of sea and walkway. Great work.

This is the best shot in the challenge, and one of the best I have seen on DPChallenge. The shades, and the silhouette are great, but the shapes are what really makes it (without having been there, the walkway and the sea look like two complementing triangles). 11. This belongs on a wall (on my wall)

Seeing a couple doesn't make feel loneliness or solitude, but it's true that the couple is all alone. This is emphasized by their placement near the edge of the frame, where the viewer's eye is led by the strong lines.

Beautiful, classy, simple, elegant. Great composition and use of leading lines. Wonderful soft-focus. I like the use of sillhouette. Black and white works nicely here. My favourite this challenge. 10

Just fabulous. Do you know a photo by Andre Kertesz called The Balcony, Martinique? It uses the same construction, though in a more abstract manner than this (but then if this were THAT good, you'd BE Andrre Kertesz, wouldn't you?). Great composition, textures, shapes. The ultimate leading line, perhaps.

Beautiful black and white. The only flaw is that the horizon is not level. Looks to be 2-3 dgrees off.

Wonderful contemporary, almost -urbane- feel due to this gloriously simple capture and, certainly, Italian in manner and composition. :-)

The position of the two strollers under the umbrella is boldly unconventional but sensible in terms of the given tonal balance. One of the most exciting photos I've seen for a while.

very nice.

This is a perfect photo. I love the lines. I love the angle. I love the scale. I love the placement of the subjects. On the merrit of those things this is a 10. I think for the challenge I would like to have seen a solitary person with the umbrella. ( However I dont feel this photo was staged and I know we have to snap what we can when the opportunity presents itself ). Two people can be alone in the world, cant they? Great capture. 9

Excellent use of space. The lack of color really sharpens the angles and contrasts. Even though the couple are not necessarily a single subject, taking them together being one works. The extreme feel of distance and the lack of any other focal points really amplifies the solitary feeling. Very well done. 8

strong lines, strong elements of contrast.
definitely conveys a sense of 'all alone'.

I love the way the lines merge in this photograph. Had you given it a bit more space on the right and let the dock meet the horizon, it would have been even better. As far as the challenge, I fear you may get people who don't agree, but a couple can be alone as easily as a person. Plus, nothing says alone like a rainy day at the beach. Nicely done.

Interesting capture, I love the use of megative space and the bold angles. I think you'll have a fight on your hands to defend this as an all alone picture - but I definitely get the sense of what you're going for. Obviously two people who are together but still alone as a couple. If that makes sense..

Great work.

nice flat tonal relationships give this a strong feel. the 3 toned background regions is strong and all leads to the couple walking. I guess they are 'all alone together'

This is a great shot. I like how the two main lines point directly at the couple. Good tones and the light is excellent. Definately one of my favorites for the week.

Nice B&W pic, very serene. Effective are the leading lines leading to the main subjects. I personally would have left a little more breathing space to the left of the people (8)

I hope people don't nitpick on the "single subject or object" rule, because this shot is beautiful. Great composition within the frame, lines, and texture. The atmospheric element is subtle and goes with the sea and land very well. Great eye. Nice work.
