Flash bounced off the silvery interior of a 7-11 umbrella. Could have used a little side lighting to bring out the structure of some of the coins, maybe. There are no coins like these in circulation in the UK now. Shame.

Not much pp -
levels brought up the white background
selective colour (neutrals/magenta) removed a pinkish cast
a little juggling with the red channel in selective colour to bring out some contrast in the copper coins
resize to 1024
noise reduce
resize to 640

brightness/contrast tweak

First off I think it's incredibly cool that you have such a nice collection of coins from the year of your birth. Wish I'd done the same! Some of your commenters have made good points - it looks like a documentary shot which is fine for that purpose but may be lacking for the purposes of "DPC wow!" and score. Detail is pretty good for having such varying surfaces/colors to work with; lighting is even. Definitely a very cool collection!

The extreme white background is too bright to allow the detail in the top coins to be seen, and sorry, but the bottom of the picture is cropped pretty tight. I would have either tried cropping so all the sides would be included or tighter so no white negative space was on either side.

Hmmm, yes it meets the challenge criteria, and it is cropped well, and it has interesting grain and colour, but it doesn't tell a story as such: I am not emotionally moved by the picture...it doesn't hold my interest...maybe a lack of mystery, story, detail that invites the viewer to spend some time looking at it...?

"Twopence for your thoughts, Gouv'ner?" :) Great coinage!

A decent shot of 1951 coins. Not being a coin collector, I'm wishing for more of a story of connection with the uniqueness of 1951.

Technically, I'm missing detail on the copper coins and seeing hot spots on the silver coin. 4

A different perspective could have made this really good. You have some character in your subject that I think you didn't capture with the top down shot.

A florin there, I see. The mint has never issued anything as nice as the threepenny bit since. 7.

Lighting is very harsh and saturation is high for me. It just seems too contrived and static for my taste. Maybe if the coins were randomly "tossed" and had something to rest on it would work....
