Interesting subject, but the lighting is off and there seems to be a bluish tint to it. The striped background also distracts.

Look at this one for an example of how high contrast and a simple background can enhance the image:

I think this just doesn't jump out as a spot, the table cloth takes away from the photo, and lo depth of field.

I can't find the focus point. The rug is a distracting too. The photo is just uninteresting for some reason that I can't explain.

an interesting idea, but there are a few things bringing its score down. the flash is quite harsh in the foreground, and falls off very quickly over the board, which you'd expect to be the subject of the image. the depth of field seems unintentionally shallow for hte composition. also, the small size of the image doesn't help the resolutionor picture quality. a good start to an image, but woudl benefit from reshooting. keep on shooting!

Unfortunately the carpet doesn't make a very appealing background and the board seems a little out of focus.

Lacks focus.

More like squares to me, but I see what you were trying to do and say.

There are two things that really hurt this shot, the lighting and the background. The flash is overpowering and gives it that "snap-shot" feel. The background is way too busy and distracts the viewer from your subject.

Sorry, I don't really see how a travel chess set involves spots. DNMC

the flash is too intense and makes the image suffer
