Processed from RAW to 16-bit TIFF — Tone mapped version taken from TIFF in Photomatix Pro and layered with original in PS.

B/W version generated and layered for semi-desat, done in 3 different layer modes for detail/contrast enhancement: one mode used dissolve and was faded to produce noise.

many minor dust specks on glasses etc brushed out with healing brush

Sharpened, neat imaged and faded, resized, USM, border

A little off the beaten path as far as composition, but seems to work very well. I think all the detail and charcter lines really make that happen. Great tones and contrast as well. Great job!

I really like the grain in the image as it fits well with the idea of a weatherbeaten man. The lighting is uneven across the face. At first that bugged me, but after really studying the image it isn't so much the uneven lighting as it is the shadow it creates of the arm of your glasses under your eye. The shadow from your nose creates a sharp point that may be a bit harsh too. Other than that you have done a very nice job.
