Whether you keep this in the middle, or at the end, this is the punchline of your series. We have met the clown and he is us. As a series, it becomes clear to me that these photos are about the way mass culture isolates individuals, perhaps because it denies that individuals exist. So the individual, trying to fit the category, i.e. "consumer," looks as pathetic as someone wearing a suit that doesn't fit. Notice that the only face we see clearly in all three pictures is the clown face. Everyone else is fuzzy or facing away. We know there are souls here, minds here, but we can't quite find them. Anomie, my friend... you have captured it. |
