I think the pole adds to the title :) I see so much of who she is just by looking at the expression on her face.

Don't listen to them. The bamboo pole adds to this picture a lot. I'm surprised this shot did not do better. I guess the people prefer those glamorized plastic looks of the top two winners.

The bamboo really detracts from an otherwise beutiful portrait. Also, is it the lens or the angle of the shot that makes her face seem unnaturally wide?

Lovely clarity: intriguing subject. I find the bamboo stick distracting: it cuts your picture into 2 pieces
