Hmmm... I'm not really a cat person, but here goes: I like the selective desat(?) leaving the eyes that vivid colour. I think a tighter crop with the eyes dead center though, would have made more of an impact. Not sold on the editing around the edges, looks a little smudgy... which brings me back to wanting the tighter crop. Have to agree with Karma about needing a contrast boost too, or even a wee play with curves, just to give it some punch. Other than those issues, it's not a bad pet portrait at all, but then it's always going to be hard to compete against gorgeous human models... ;) |

I suspect voters didn't score high here because many may assume that a portrait has to be of a person. Also, warm and cuddly may work better than the scowl. As far as the picture itself, the thing that jumps out at me is that the eyes seem to be just a tad bit off-center. It may be an illusion, but it appears as if you were trying to get them centered and missed the mark. I like the PP but it appears that a bit of color is in the fur instead of B&W, assuming that B&W was your intention for fur. I would have scored it 6. |

Beautiful cat. Love the expression. I like the shot, but it does all blend together. Maybe a bit more contrast or something to get away from the all gray feeling. Also, since this was advanced editing, you could've taken advantage of the green eyes. I'm not a particular fan of that technique, but others seem to like it.
