Shooting over Kiwiness' shoulder here. The lights were interesting for bokeh, we all had that idea, but Gary started shooting Jeanette with the background and as far as I know he didn't mind me shooting her too.
It will be interesting to see the difference if he submits a photo of her as well. We were in the same location, but he was using an 85mm lens, fill flash and is much better with colors and stuff. I cropped it, probably near a 70mm view.

My problem with this photo was lack of that fill flash. So to keep the highlights (yes they are partly blown, but what do you expect shooting into lightbulbs?) I underexposed Jeanette. And with basic editing it is hell to compensate for that. I'd like her whole skintone to be like the hand, but I'd need masks with different B&W processing for that. Also the noise was argh, because of all the compensating with curves and stuff and I'd like to blend in an artificial underexposed raw to improve the highlights. Also would like some masking/curves work on the eyes and perhaps a silver reflection filter.

The Bokeh of the 50mm this was shot with is only good below f/2. IMO the bokeh here @ f/2.2 is pretty sucky.

I like this portrait alot, main reason is the context. The lady is the only one standing the direction of the camera. Just the right amount of depth to keep the context and to isolate the subject.

Very nice. I think sepia would do slightly better for the the skin.

Not what I would consider boken, to much detail or dof to me.

This is nice - way different than most of the entries I have seen so far. Nice focus on the forefront and great interest in the background. Not your typical bokeh shot at all and yet it works well and fits the challenge IMO. Nice work and good luck.

Not the typical "bokeh" type image, but I find it refreshing and I like the candid sense of it. Lovely tones. 7

Great Bokeh! I wish the subject was a little more contrasted against the background here 7
