Pretty easy setup really.

With all the talk of the nuclear threats and religous fever running rampant I got this idea of the birth of man. I knew I wanted a non-descript backlit human figure but..what would I do to represent the birth?

Then I got an idea from watching a James Bond movie. The beginning credits always have that tunnel kind of thing going for it so I wanted to re-create that concept.

So..the set-up.

I have my model behind a semi-transparent shower curtain..backlit with a 2 million candle sport spot light.

Then I have my camera set up with a piece of PVC pipe set-up in front of the lens so when you look down the pipe the glow effects and shadows gives a bubble effect to the model behind the screen.

Post processing was very minimal. This shot looks pretty much like it did right out the camera.

-Noise Ninja
-Crop
-Levels
-Curves for contrast
-Selective color to remove some minor color casting
-resized for the web
-very little sharpening..I wanted to maintain the soft glow

I don't know whether this shot will have enough detail or "stock photo" feel to entice the DPC crowd but I like the effect and I learned something new..which is the point I guess :-D

Reminds me of another photo that had that tunnel vision effect. The centered composition enhances that "trapped" feeling, IMO. Overall good shot!

Sweet! I love the image, although I'm not sure DPC is ready for it. I'm curious if this was intended in a sci-fi way, or a pre-natal way. I am also curious about the technique -- it's flirting with a DQ request.

Very clever and a good example of an innovative treatment of lighting....don't know why, but I would have preferred her just off centre a little.
