The idea came to me from a weekend magazine article, I loved the picture Donna Hay styled for the recipe, so I got my bits and pieces, made the pancakes and set up outside on the deck. I tried different crops and settled on this one.

Basically levels, dodge and burn, USM, resize, blur and sharpen, more dodging and burning, final USM and a little noise reduction. Border and save for web.

POST CHALLENGE:
I was happy to finish nice and high with this, so thanks everyone for the vites and encouragement along the way

You are really good with food. You should work for a restaurant. I mean really you are making me hungry here.

You sure set a LOVELY table! One of my top picks. So very well done. Nice score but....psssst....between you and me it should have been top five. I mean, the pancakes are even crispy on the edges...just the way I like them!

hotpasta gives us hot pancakes...with blueberries. Yum.

This is beautifully shot and I have no idea how I missed commenting on it during the challenge. The color, lighting and DOF are almost perfect.

A well deserved Top 15.

And as always...thanks for the kind comments.

Ok, I wish I lived at your house, as I love my pancakes with blueberries, for breakfast.....
Well, you deserved this score and placement, for not only the food seen here, but also how you photographed it, as it looks like the cover of a Gourmet Food Magizine..... Well done, fellow Aussie.....

Back to comment. This feels like a pic from a Southern Living or BH&G magazine. Great composition, colors, focus and blur. Just an excellent picture overall. A pleasant departure from the oversaturated sunrises (and mine was one of those) and the poorly shot coffee cups. This shot belongs in a food publication all the way and I hope it scores well for you. Bumping up 2. Edit - on second thought (or third as it would be) you get the last bump up - 10 for me. Ok - back one last time. Gonna add this to my fav list and I need to add a reminder to put syrup on tomorrows shopping list.

Yammy! Colours, pastel tones and composition really attractive, inducing the viewer a morning atmosphere and on how delicious those pancakes must be. I wouldn't call it fast though - it might take a while to work on them all... :-))

you get an extra point because I haven't had breakfast yet and boy does that look good!

A photo worthy of menus everywhere! The reflections in the fork are the only detraction from this excellent photo. 8

It's rare that I like 'food' shots. The reason is they are often very poorly done and unappetizing. I will have to say that you really did a wonderful job here. The light, colors and the composition all come together to make a very fine entry. Congrats!!!!

Delicious! Excellent use of DOF, nice props in well chosen colors, exquisite food styling, nice reflections on the fork. Almost cook-book ready.

Had shot from a slightly lower angle, mirrored the photo (for us right-handed people). Sugar on the berries is overexposed, coffee-can should have been rotated to be higher recognizable.

9 from a creative director working for a food company

mmmm, looks like a lovely cooking magazine ad. very professional, the shades of blue are gorgeous. The cup looks a little crooked for some reason, but that's not a big thing...could probably fix that whenever. Going into my favorites, and that's pretty good considering I don't like pancakes! 10
