I've learned that woodpeckers are afraid of woodies. I was lucky to get THIS timid woodpecker to take some food and get a shot in. This shot is actually the first time he saw the woody. He took one look at woody, nabbed a nut and took off. He didn't go near woody again. Poor woodpecker! :( Now he has a fear of woodies!

This photo was taken through my front window and required a lot of patience. I am sure there are things technically wrong with the composition, exposure and such. I couldn't set up any lighting and wonder how the pros do things like this. I sure some of you will enlighten me. :)

I can't believe woodpeckers are afraid of woodies - what a hoot! Love the story with this - and the picture speaks all on it's own.

You must have great patience. Having the woodpecker in the shot is priceless. I love the pose of the Woody. It looks like it is enticing the woodpecker closer. Not bad bokeh. The whole overall composition just makes this shot. Great job. I hope you do well.

What a great setup. Birds are just so curious. It looks like the woody is giving a dissertation on the merits of bird seed.

Nice, the woodpecker almost looks fake. My only problem was when I first looked at the image, the seeds merged with the bokeh background and made things a little confused, great shot though.

Very cute image. How long did you have to sit to get this? I like the natural lighting it seems to work well. colours DOF is great.

Lighting is a bit harsh. Maybe later or earlier in the day would have helped.

how on earth could you put woody in that kind of danger? that's cruelty in my opinion....SPCW where are you wen we need you? ;-)

great clear image...perhaps a wider aperture would have been better to blur out the bg and make it less distracting, but perhaps you only had a split second to grab the shot

good luck with this

Great idea, nice arrangement and composition, pretty good execution. Shallower DOF would help smooth the background and make it less distracting - here's where fast lenses show their worth. Also, lighting from front would probably be better as the backlighting isn't being used for much effect, IMHO.

Interesting idea and well executed. I like the pose you've chosen for your woody. The woodpecker even looks curious which is a nice touch.

Nice capture but i'm not getting what the woody is supposed to be doing, if anything. I think a different pose of the woody could improve this shot greatly.
